Brother laser and LED printers use TN-series toner that is model-specific. This guide covers the families we stock for recent OEM launches: TN1150, TN2510 / TN2510XL and TN248 / TN248XL.

On this page 1. Match the toner family 2. Original vs compatible 3. Standard vs XL 4. Install safely

1. Match the toner family

FamilyExample printersShop
TN1150HL-L1240W, DCP-L1640WHL-L1240W, DCP-L1640W
TN2510 / XLHL-L2445DW, DCP-L2620DWHL-L2445DW, DCP-L2620DW
TN248 / XLDCP-L3520CDW, DCP-L3560CDWDCP-L3520CDW, DCP-L3560CDW

Never mix these families. A TN2510 will not work in a TN1150 printer even though both are mono black laser machines.

2. Original vs compatible

Original Brother toner is the default for warranty-sensitive offices. Compatible toner can be useful when Magento lists an exact twin for your model — we only show products that belong on that printer page.

3. Standard vs XL

XL cartridges cost more up front and usually print more pages. If you print weekly reports or school packs, XL often wins on cost per page. Occasional users can stick with standard TN2510 or TN248 multipacks.

4. Install safely

  1. Power off or follow Brother's on-screen toner wizard.
  2. Remove the old cartridge and place it on paper to catch loose toner.
  3. Rock the new cartridge gently, remove the protective cover, and slide it in until it seats.
  4. Close the cover and print a configuration or test page.

If prints look faded after install, check the drum unit guidance in Brother's manual before ordering another toner.
